The Research Triangle's pickleball scene has grown quietly into one of the strongest in the Mid-Atlantic. Parks across Raleigh, Durham, and Cary have added courts to keep up with demand. The four-season calendar means genuinely different conditions throughout the year — Playable helps you navigate all of them.

Seasonal Guide

Excellent conditions, rainy stretches
March through May brings Raleigh's best weather: mornings in the 52–70°F range, low humidity, and light wind. It's also the rainiest season — spring storms can soak courts overnight and leave them wet through the morning. The dry spells between systems are long and very playable. Playable helps you find those windows.
Humid summers, 7 AM is essential
June through August, Raleigh humidity makes mid-morning play increasingly uncomfortable. The 7 AM hour is typically 72–82°F — warm but playable. Afternoon thunderstorms are frequent and overnight systems can leave courts wet. Summer pickleball in the Triangle means checking conditions before every session.
Raleigh's finest outdoor window
September through November is when the Triangle's pickleball community plays its most active and enjoyable games. Humidity drops, October mornings hit the mid-50s to low 60s, and rain events are shorter and less frequent. Courts stay drier and the season runs comfortably into late November most years.
Mostly playable with occasional ice
December through February averages 35–52°F mornings — cold but manageable for committed players. Ice storms happen a few times per winter and can close courts for two to three days. Between those events, many Raleigh players stay on outdoor courts through February. Playable flags both the temperature and wet-court conditions.
